Bennu is managed by a team of four investment professionals who have known and/or invested with each other for almost ten years. Bennu combines experience in both managing direct venture portfolios and co-investing alongside top-tier venture capital firms. Collectively, the Team has almost 90 years of experience in venture investing and asset management experience. The principals have invested in over than 70 venture investments since 1995. Bennu Ventures has augmented the Team with an Advisory Board that includes leading venture capital investors and entrepreneurs. The Team is strong, experienced, and complementary and expects to set itself apart in an extremely competitive industry. The partnership is collaborative and dynamic, and the Principals expect to make high quality decisions with respect to new investments. The Principals have multiple relationships with many of the most respected early-stage VC firms.

Ronnie Lott

Ronnie Lott has had a long and successful career in the alternative asset investment industry. Mr. Lott co-founded HRJ Capital in 1999, and the firm’s mission was to create unique, high-quality private equity fund-of-funds investments. HRJ Capital’s first funds focused exclusively on top-tier venture capital funds. The founding partners built upon that foundation and evolved into a diversified institutional investment management firm.

Ronnie Lott has had a long and successful career in the alternative asset investment industry. Mr. Lott co-founded HRJ Capital in 1999, and the firm’s mission was to create unique, high-quality private equity fund-of-funds investments. HRJ Capital’s first funds focused exclusively on top-tier venture capital funds. The founding partners built upon that foundation and evolved into a diversified institutional investment management firm. Before Capital Dynamics acquired HRJ Capital in 2009, the firm expanded and included a range of fund-of-funds offerings covering top-tier buyout, real estate and hedge fund investments in addition to their core offerings in venture capital.

In 2007, Mr. Lott founded SC Investments Consulting, LLC with Mr. Issac Vaughn to work with young companies and entrepreneurs in the sports, media and technology industries. Mr. Lott’s other business endeavors include Olympius Capital, a minority-owned investment firm in which he is a principal, and Tracy Toyota, a dealership he co-owns. Mr. Lott is heavily involved in charitable activities through his non-profit organization, All Stars Helping Kids, which raises funds for programs for disadvantaged youth in the San Francisco Bay Area. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the Bay Area Sports Organizing Committee, which is working to bring the 2012 Summer Olympics to the San Francisco Bay Area.

Elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2000, Mr. Lott played 14 seasons in the NFL and enjoyed one of the more celebrated careers of any defensive back in NFL history. During his 10 years with the San Francisco 49ers, the team won four Super Bowls as Lott gained a reputation as one of the league’s fiercest competitors. He was named to 10 Pro Bowls and was an eight-time All-Pro selection as a cornerback, free safety, and strong safety. Lott continued his career with the Los Angeles Raiders and New York Jets before retiring in 1995. In 2002, he was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame, in recognition of his role on the 1987 USC team that won the college football championship.

Mr. Lott is a graduate of The University of Southern California, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration.

Darryl Wash

Darryl Wash has had a long career as a private investor, entrepreneurial manager and investment banker. He was a founder and the Managing Partner of both Ascend Venture Group, LLC (“Ascend Ventures”) and Ascend Financial Advisors, LLC (“AFA”, and together with Ascend Ventures, the “Ascend Entities”). Ascend Ventures raised approximately $150 million in four partnerships from 2000 to 2005 and invested in 30 venture stage private companies.

Darryl Wash has had a long career as a private investor, entrepreneurial manager and investment banker. He was a founder and the Managing Partner of both Ascend Venture Group, LLC (“Ascend Ventures”) and Ascend Financial Advisors, LLC (“AFA”, and together with Ascend Ventures, the “Ascend Entities”). Ascend Ventures raised approximately $150 million in four partnerships from 2000 to 2005 and invested in 30 venture stage private companies.

Prior to founding the Ascend Entities, Darryl was a Managing Director of Peter J. Solomon Company (PJSC), a New York-based private investment bank and prior to that worked in the Investment Banking Division of Goldman, Sachs & Co. Darryl has completed more than 100 transactions as either an advisor or as a principal. He was worked in industries as diverse as technology, for-profit education, retail and consumer products, energy, telecommunications and media. His clients and investments have ranged in size from less than $25,000 to transactions in excess of $12 billion.

Darryl has also been an active angel investor having invested in more than 20 companies beginning in 1996.

Darryl currently serves as a director of several Ascend-sponsored partnerships’ portfolio companies. In addition, Darryl is the treasurer of Do Something, a national youth service not-for-profit organization, and a board member of The Apollo Theatre Foundation.

Darryl received an M.B.A. from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Business and was named an Arjay Miller Scholar for graduating in the top ten percent of his class. He is also a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley (B.A., Economics) where he graduated with the highest distinction in general scholarship and was elected to Phi Beta Kappa.

Issac Vaughn

Issac Vaughn has had a long career in Silicon Valley, first as a lawyer with Wilson Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati (“WSGR”), a preeminent technology and venture capital legal firm and subsequently as a business development professional and investor. Mr. Vaughn is the Managing Director of SC Investments Consulting, LLC (“SC”), a sports, media and technology focused consulting company founded by Mr. Vaughn and NFL Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott in 2007.

Issac Vaughn has had a long career in Silicon Valley, first as a lawyer with Wilson Sonsini, Goodrich & Rosati (“WSGR”), a preeminent technology and venture capital legal firm and subsequently as a business development professional and investor. Mr. Vaughn is the Managing Director of SC Investments Consulting, LLC (“SC”), a sports, media and technology focused consulting company founded by Mr. Vaughn and NFL Hall of Famer Ronnie Lott in 2007. SC’s business activities include consulting and advisory services, investing and corporate partnering. SC’s investments include Yardbarker, Inc., operator of the largest network of sports blogs and pro athlete blogs on the web, which was acquired by Fox Sports Interactive Media in 2010 and True Capital Management, a global wealth management firm that was created to service the financial needs of professional athletes, entertainers and other high net worth individuals.

Prior to joining SC, Mr. Vaughn was a partner at WSGR, where he co-led a group that worked with technology, education, Internet and life sciences companies through all stages of their growth, and venture capitalists and investment bankers. Mr. Vaughn specialized in the areas of corporate and securities law, including general corporate representations, venture capital financings, public offerings, and mergers and acquisitions. As a strategic business partner, Mr. Vaughn and his group offered focused resources and capabilities to meet the most critical needs of startup and emerging growth companies, including making introductions to angel investors, financiers, venture capitalists, and corporate partners. He was frequently called upon to structure and negotiate mergers and acquisitions, licensing arrangements and strategic corporate alliances, as well as other innovative financing arrangements. While practicing, Mr. Vaughn received many honors and awards, including being named as one of the top 20 lawyers under the age of 40 by California Law Business, a Super Lawyer by San Francisco Magazine and one of America’s Top Black Lawyers by Black Enterprise Magazine.

Mr. Vaughn received his B.A. from Santa Clara University and his J.D. from The University of Michigan.

Chau Nguyen

Chau has two decades of successful experience in the asset management industry.  Prior to  Bennu Ventures, she ran her own firm, Oriense Partners which advised top tier alternative managers on fund raising and client services efforts.

Chau has two decades of successful experience in the asset management industry. Prior to Bennu Ventures, she ran her own firm, Oriense Partners which advised top tier alternative managers on fund raising and client services efforts. Chau worked in a variety of strategies including ventures, buyouts, mezzanine, private debt, hedge funds and fund of funds. Previously, Chau was a partner at Progress Investment Management, Co. where she raised $2 billion in new assets. Prior to Progress, Chau was Executive Vice President, Institutional Sales at MultiTrade Securities, an electronic trading firm with Bloomberg Tradebook and the Bank of New York as strategic partners. Chau held senior positions at AXA Group and Citibank Global Asset Management, after entering the industry with Clemente Capital, Inc.

Chau received an MBA from the Wharton Graduate School of Business and a BA from Wellesley College. Vietnamese born, she was raised in Switzerland and France and is fluent in French, English, Spanish, Vietnamese and Chinese. Chau is a member of Private Equity Women’s Investor Network (PE WIN), a by-invitation only organization comprised of top women in private equity.
